'It's never easy against a lower division team, as they really put everything into it as they have nothing to loose. But our focus and concentration levels were fantastic and we deserved the victory as we played the higher standard of football.'

MATCH REPORT
 |
| |
 |
Marlow United re-ignited their quest for the double against division 5 leaders AFC Lightning.
However it was Aiden Roberts who opened the scoring with a darting run down the flank and a well taken shot to beat the AFC goalie on his near-side post. Wesley Bobb then scored an almost identical goal as AFC failed to close the opening in their defence.
AFC lightning kept their shape and discipline and made it difficult for Marlow to play their game. Marlow’s stand-in goalie John Massingham inspired confidence at the back as he collected a number of high balls that were floated into his 6 yard box and Dilen Navsaria used his pace and balance at centre back to deny the AFC centre forwards. After a period of tight play by both sides, Wesley Bobb made the breakthrough to score his second goal just before half time.
After the break, AFC came out the brighter and quickly exploited the change in Marlow’s defensive formation to peg back a goal.
However the greater possession and penetration by Marlow started to pay off as AFC began to make a number of mistakes. Wesley Bobb opportunistically picked up a poor clearance by AFC to score his hat-trick.
Marlow started to play some excellent passing moves down the left and right channels creating a number of chances. Chris Nelson scored a good header as the AFC goalie failed to collect a right field cross.
Former AFC player Alex Murray made the game safe for Marlow as he picked up a loose ball in the 18 yard box and smashed the ball against the inside of the left goal post.
Marlow now take their place in the semi finals with a tie against division 2 rivals Berkhamsted Raiders or Beaconsfield SYCOB.
