Managers Comments

'The defenders, strikers and midfielders all did a fantastic job. Charlie Perry worked hard and was in full control for 80 minutes. FC Mandeville made fantastic attacking play but we had very good position on the pitch and this broke down their attacking play. Due to us being 5 players short, we had players playing out of normal position and they also did a fantastic job'

MATCH REPORT

Marlow United Youth v FC Mandeville

Marlow Utd maintained their run in the U15 league cup as the top two teams in division 2 competed a hard fought and exciting game.

FC Mandeville started with an early goal from a mistake by Marlow Utd. However Wesley Bobb lifted the team’s spirit with a well taken goal on the counter attack showing greater pace and strength to cut through the Mandeville back line.

Marlow’s Alex Murray took a knock in open play and was unable to continue leaving Marlow with no further substitutes, due to a further 5 players missing through illness.

However Adam Hazell made it two goals for Marlow Utd with a blistering run down the right hand side to collect a long ball and slot the ball past the outstretched Mandeville goalie.

But Marlow were unable to capitalise further and after the break Mandeville pegged back the equaliser as one of the Mandeville forwards beat the offside trap from a free kick to slot home a shot.

Marlow Utd knuckled down to compete for every ball against a strong and skilful Mandeville team.

Marlow goalie Charlie Perry made several important saves and defender Jonathan Liberty made a vital clearance on goal which was destined for the back of net.

The pace and ferocity of the game continued as Adam Hazell bravely gambled on a fifty fifty ball to be out beaten by the Mandeville goalie taking a badly grazed leg for his troubles which forced him to the sidelines.

Down to 10 men Marlow continued to play with real determination and purpose as Mandeville tried to make the extra man count.

Adam Hazell eventually returned to the field of play clearly still in some discomfort. Wesley Bobb made an excellent shot on goal with a equally excellent save by the Mandeville goalie but the ball did not go out of play and Adam Hazell reacted quickest to the loose ball with a well aimed cross for Wesley Bobb to head in the winning goal. The emotional celebrations from players and supporters alike showed how hard the team had worked for the victory.

A heroic win for the “Flying Blues” who now earn themselves a 4rd round tie against division 1 Chesham United Youth.
